Stoffel Vandoorne: The new GP2 champion
McLaren development driver Stoffel Vandoorne has clinched the GP2 Series title in Russia with four races to spare.
The Belgian has dominated the championship throughout 2015 and has never been headed at the top of the drivers' standings.
Vandoorne's march to the crown was set up early in the season when he finished outside of the top two just once in the first eight races. That blemish on his record came in the reverse grid race in Monaco where overtaking is notoriously difficult, even for the ART driver.
Heading into Sunday's race at Sochi, the 23-year-old knew that if he finished ahead of Alexander Rossi he would be champion and produced a mature drive to stay out of trouble and not take any unnecessary risks.
Vandoorne tested McLaren's F1 car in Austria earlier this year, but with Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso confirmed for 2016, it remains to be seen what the Belgian's next move will be.
