A 40-year-old woman has been raped while walking her dog in Salford.

She was walking near New Bank Towers in the Blackfriars area at about 06:00 BST on Sunday when she was approached by a man, Greater Manchester Police said.

As they reached Mount Street, near the back of the Friars Primary School, she was dragged into bushes and raped.

The man is described as white, in his twenties, about 5ft 7in tall and of slim build. He was wearing all black clothing and spoke with a local accent.

Det Sgt Julie Connor said: "This is a very serious incident which we are actively investigating.

"There will be extra patrols in the area to reassure the public and I am appealing for witnesses to come forward."
