A woman and a six-year-old child have been stabbed to death in Lancashire, police said.

The woman and the boy were found at an address in Lowlands Road, in Bolton-le-Sands, five miles north of Lancaster, at about 11:40 BST.

A man found with stab wounds was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital and arrested on suspicion of murder.

Lancashire Police have cordoned off the area and post mortem examinations are due to be carried out.

Det Supt Paul Withers said: "We are still in the very early stages of this investigation but we are conducting a number of enquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths."
