Teenage woman dies in fire in London street

The woman's death is being treated as
unexplained

An 18-year-old woman has died after she was found on fire in a street in south-west London.

Police and fire brigade crews were called to a level crossing on West Barnes Lane in New Malden at 01:00 GMT.

The fire was put out, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been told.

Officers believe the fire started at a nearby residential property in Linkway. Her death is being treated as unexplained.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward.

The cause of the fire and circumstances of the death are being investigated by officers in Merton, and by London Fire Brigade.

A post-mortem examination has yet to be arranged.
