President Barack Obama wins re-election

President Barack Obama has been re-elected to a second term, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

With most US states reporting results, America's first black president has won a majority of electoral votes.

Mr Obama prevailed despite lingering dissatisfaction with the economy and a well-funded challenger in Mr Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts.
