Pair charged with sex assault on 10-week-old baby girl

A man and woman have been charged with sex offences and neglect after a 10-week-old baby girl was seriously injured in Essex.

Social workers contacted police after the child was admitted to Colchester General Hospital with head injuries and injuries consistent with a sex assault.

A man, 31, and a woman, 23, have been charged with two counts of attempted rape on the baby.

They have also been charged with neglect causing unnecessary suffering.

They have also been charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent relating to serious head injuries and injuries of a sexual nature

The pair were remanded in custody to appear before Colchester magistrates on Thursday.
