Horse meat: Asda withdraws fresh bolognese sauce

2013-02-14 21:30:27

Asda has withdrawn four products from its shelves after its product 500g Beef Bolognese Sauce tested positive for horse DNA.

Three other products from the same supplier have been removed as a precaution:

* 600g Beef Broth Soup

* 500g Meat Feast Pasta Sauce

* 400g Chilli Con Carne Soup

The retailer said it was withdrawing a chilled 500g beef bolognese sauce from sale following a preliminary test result suggesting the presence of horse DNA.

The sauce is the first fresh product to be drawn into the horsemeat scandal - previously only frozen products had been removed from stores.

"We are taking a belt-and-braces approach," said a spokesman.

Asda added that it was working hard to ensure shoppers could have "complete confidence" in the food they bought. "We're very sorry if this ongoing situation is causing our customers any upset or inconvenience." added the spokesman.
