A seven-year-old girl has died after falling from the 11th floor of a block of flats in north London.

The girl, who has been named by her school as Nawaal Sayid, fell from the balcony at Emburton Court, Tompion Street in Angel on Tuesday evening.

She was treated by paramedics but died hours later in hospital.

Paying tribute to Nawaal, head teacher of The Bridge School Dr Penny Barratt said she was an "extremely happy, bubbly, fun-loving girl".

"She brought a smile to the faces of all who came into contact with her," Dr Barratt added.

"We will really miss her."

Police investigating the fall - which happened at about 18:50 BST - said the death was being treated as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination is due later this week.
