Five gang members, including a 15-year-old boy, have been jailed for murdering a painter and decorator in London.

Andrew Jaipaul, 21, was stabbed 25 times as he walked through the Andover estate in Holloway, in June 2011.

At the Old Bailey, Tommy McInerny, 21, was told he must serve a minimum of 18 years, 19-year-old Jojo Mafwa, 12 years and Tirrell Ball-Thomas, 18, 11 years.

A 15-year-old and an 18-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were detained for nine and 12 years.

The court heard that McInerny, of Islington, Mafwa, of Tottenham, Ball-Thomas, of Finsbury Park, and the two youths attacked Mr Jaipul with knives as he walked home through the estate.

During the trial, prosecutor Zoe Johnson QC said Mr Jaipaul was walking home when "out of nowhere, a large, armed gang came across him, decided to attack him, chased him down and brutally murdered him near a children's play area".

A sixth man, Warren Brooks, 23, of Islington, was found not guilty of murder but was convicted of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and was jailed for seven years.

Members of the public said they had seen the attackers, who were part of the Busy Block gang from the nearby Elthorne Estate, go after Mr Jaipaul and kill him.

Mr Jaipaul, from Finsbury Park, died at the scene.

Another man Orville Sterling, 18, of Enfield, north London, had the case against him dismissed.
