Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a two-year-old child in her pram in a street in Greater Manchester.

He assaulted the toddler as her mother spoke to her son while crossing Smith Lane and Darwin Road in Bromley Cross, Bolton at 15:50 BST on Wednesday.

Police said when she turned around a man was inappropriately touching her young daughter.

When confronted by her, the man moved his hand and fled. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Police described the man as white, of heavy build, with shoulder length grey hair and grey stubble and said he appeared dirty and unkempt.

He was wearing a tight fitting dark zip-up jacket, navy blue jogging bottoms and carrying a plain white carrier bag.

Det Con Richard Barrett said: "I'm certain that at that time in the afternoon there will have been many people about in the street using the shops or picking their children up from school, so I'm asking anyone who has any information to call us.

"The victim's mother has been able to give us a full description of the offender, so I'd also urge people to think as to whether they know who this man is."
