A man has died and another is seriously injured after a large metal door fell on them at a music venue in Surrey.

Police were called to G Live, in London Road, Guildford, shortly after 11:45 GMT on Saturday to a report that two men were trapped underneath it.

One man suffered serious injuries to his legs, but was declared dead at the scene. The other man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

A concert by the Cornwall-based Fisherman's Friends was cancelled.

A statement from G Live said a serious accident had resulted "in the tragic death of a member of a touring visiting company's personnel".

"This is a terribly sad day and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this incredibly difficult time," it said.

Surrey Police are investigating, and the Health and Safety Executive - which investigates work based accidents - has been notified.
