Little Mix

The debut album by girl group Little Mix has become the highest ever charting album by a UK girl group in America.

Their debut album DNA has gone straight into the Billboard charts at number four.

The former X Factor winners have sold over 50, 000 copies in its first week of release.

The girls have seen their American profile rise after their track Wings appeared on Glee and American Idol.

DNA also had a good start on the iTunes chart, with the deluxe edition entering at number two.

Only Daft Punk's Random Access Memories has sold more copies.

The album reached number three in the UK Official Album Charts in November last year.

British Invasion

Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall from the band, who are in the states now, told Newsbeat how it feels to join the likes of One Direction and Ed Sheeran on the growing list of successful British acts in the US.

Jade, 20, said: "We can't believe it. It's mental! We were going to happy with being in the top 10 so to get to number four is just a bonus.

"We're so grateful for all the support we're getting because we're still not massive over here."

The singer said they're 'not quite at the level of One Direction yet' but did say: "We get loads of people waiting for us at airports and running after our tour bus. We love it!"

What's the secret?

The 2011 X Factor winners are now more successful than The Sugarbabes, The Saturdays and the Spice Girls in America.

Pinnock, 21, said their popularity is because their fans 'got to know us and get to know our personalities' during their time on The X Factor.

"We're just four normal girls just trying to follow our dream and others can relate to that," she added.

The girls, who performed at Radio 1's Big Weekend last week, said the only problem she was having was with interviewers understanding their accents.

Jade, who is from South Shields, said: "I have to slow down and speak better or they can't understand me."

The band recently said they have started work on their second album.
