CeeLo Green will NOT be charged with sexually assaulting a woman after allegedly spiking her drink - but will be charged with possession of ecstasy, TMZ report.
Original charges stemming from the reported assault at a sushi bar in downtown LA are to be dropped by the Los Angeles County District Attorney on Monday due to insufficient evidence.
But while the more serious charge has been dismissed, the website claim that 39-year-old CeeLo - currently a mentor on talent show The Voice - will be booked for possession of an illegal substance.
The woman in question claims the singer spiked her drink with ecstasy during a date in 2012, an incident that allegedly led to her being naked in his bed with no apparent knowledge of how she found herself there.
Probation: The singer is likely to get probation
for the drug charge, due to it being a first
Police sources have told TMZ that her story was flawed, primarily because she had been dating CeeLo for some time prior to the alleged incident, and had also because she had previously been intimate with the singer.
The drug charge reportedly stems from a secret tape recording made by the complainant.
While CeeLo doesn’t directly refer to spiking her drink, sources tell the website that he does candidly mention the Class-A substance in conversation.
The LA District Attorney is understood to view the tape as a confession, with the singer expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
Despite his felony charge, the criminal complaint won’t be alleging the Forget You singer attempted to physically harm the woman at the heart of the case.
Last year CeeLo's representative's released statement addressing allegations of sexual assault.
'Given that the matter is under investigation, we obviously cannot speak as freely as we'd like,' a representative told Rolling Stone. 'What we can say is that these allegations are despicable, untrue, and deeply hurtful to Cee Lo, his children and his family.
'We are confident that when all the facts come out, it will be clear that if anyone was victimized here, it was Cee Lo. In the meantime, Cee Lo is deeply grateful for the overwhelming support he has received from his fans, his friends, and his colleagues.'
He is expected to be given probation due to the possession charge being a first offense.
