George Osborne abused within seconds of joining Twitter

2013-03-20 19:35:29

George Osborne has joined Twitter on the day he presents his budget statement.

In his first-ever tweet the chancellor's team posted a picture of him supposedly at work with the famous red ministerial box in the foreground.

Illustrating the difficulty Mr Osborne may find in getting his message across on a relatively liberal medium such as Twitter, the first reply to his tweet was from Sarah McAlpine, who wrote: 'Ooo am I the first? You're a t***.'

David Wearing added: 'Worst chancellor ever. Quite a place in history. Will you resign this afternoon? Why not?'

The best replies to George Osborne's first tweet:

The person annoyed by punctuation...

The person who doesn't have a problem with the punctuation...

The person who didn't want to see the picture...

The person asking the question we all want to ask...

The person who is really surprised...

The person that likens him to fruit...

The person that's disappointed already...

The decision to throw the chancellor to the lions of Twitter is especially brave given what happened when he presented medals at the Olympic Stadium during the Paralympics
