Two people have been rescued after a fire at a shop in Birmingham.

West Midlands Fire Service said about 30 firefighters tackled the blaze in the Ward End area of the city.

It was brought under control by about 07:20 BST but crews were still at the scene, the service said.

The A4040 Bromford Lane was closed between The Fox and Goose and the Kingsbury Road junction, because of the fire, and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
