Richie Nelson died at the scene of a crash in Smethwick
The victim of a Midland car crash was a young dad who worked as a prison officer.
Dad-of-one Richie Nelson, known as Big Rich, died when a BMW he was driving smashed into a tree.
Friend Darren Harriott was among pals who paid tribute to the 23-year-old, who was from Smethwick.
He said: "I can't get my head around it - the guy made me laugh just the other day.
"I remember laughing a lot when he told me how hard it was for him to find button shirts for work due to his giant chest.
"I was always happy to see him."
Mr Nelson died at the scene of the crash, which happened in Thimblemill Road, Smethwick, at 10.45pm on Saturday.
Three other men were injured, two seriously.
In a direct tribute to his friend, Mr Harriott said: "You were always a hard worker constantly trying to better yourself through work.
"I'm really, really gonna miss you man, your family should be very proud of you.
"I feel very fortunate to have known you and called you my friend, take care Big Rich."
Sgt Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police's collision investigation unit, said: "This was a tragic event and we are following up a number of enquiries.
"It is important we piece together the events leading up to the collision.
"I would appeal to anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem, to contact me or any member of my team."
