Three people have been jailed for life for the murder of a disabled man.

Barry Shillam, 52, from Edgbaston, was found collapsed with serious injuries in Brook Street, Smethwick in July.

The father of three died in hospital from multiple organ failure and internal bleeding.

Andrea Jones, 40 and John Scott, 47, of Brook Street, Smethwick, and Gurminder Singh Sidhu, 40, of St Matthews Road, Smethwick, were each told they will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison.

A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court convicted them on Monday of Mr Shillam's murder.

Det Sgt Harry May, from the major investigation and review team, said Mr Shillam was subjected to "a prolonged and vicious attack", during which he was dragged outside the flat and punched and kicked for over an hour.

"Barry was registered disabled, suffering from severe short-term memory loss, and was unable to defend himself. He didn't stand a chance from the severe beating that was thrust upon him," he said.

Mr Shillam's brother, Stephen Falconer, said: "Barry has been torn from our hearts and our lives have been shattered.

"Barry was easy prey in terms of his weakness physically and mentally, he would have seen his murderers as friends."
