The man was shot near to the junction with Golden Hillock Road at around 10pm.
And despite suffering gun wounds he survived and even took himself to hospital where police were called.
The victim was sat in his car when a black Audi, believed to be an A5 or S5 model, pulled up alongside him and he was shot through the window.
Officers were alerted after the 34-year-old victim arrived at the hospital and they are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Nick Dale said: "This man has had a lucky escape and thankfully, his injuries are not life threatening but he will require surgery.
"Clearly the consequences could have been a lot worse and we are urgently working to find whoever shot the man.
"Our officers were in the area this morning carrying out inquiries and we have already recovered the Audi we believe was used by the offender, which was found burnt out about three and a half miles away in Blakesley Road shortly after midnight.
"We are appealing for witnesses to the shooting but I would like to reassure residents that this is thought to be a targeted, rather than a random attack.
"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have noticed the Audi being driven between the two locations late last night and can give us a description of anyone who was in the vehicle or who torched it."
Witnesses can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
