Jeweller Attack

A jeweller was hit across the head with a sledgehammer by thieves who broke into his shop in the West Midlands.

The four raiders, wearing black, smashed their way through the front door of Davand Jewellers in Bearwood Road, Smethwick, on Saturday afternoon.

They used the hammer to break into a glass cabinet and took tens of thousands of pounds worth of goods.

The 52-year-old shop owner was hit twice across the head but escaped with minor injuries, police said.

West Midlands Police said the jeweller hit the shop's panic alarm, which prompted the robbers to attack him.

His wife, who was also in the store at the time, was not hurt.

Police said the men made off in a getaway car. Officers said they were pursuing several lines of inquiry and examining CCTV.

They urged anyone with information to contact them.
