He's the pupil known as Mr 100 per cent - because he hasn't missed a day of lessons since nursery.

Rikesh Jagatia maintained a perfect attendance record throughout his 12 years of schooling.

Now aged 16, he even turned up for classes when he felt poorly - after ordering his mum to dose him up on medicine.

Rikesh, who has just left Ninestiles Academy in Acocks Green, said: "I suppose I could have stayed in bed when I felt under the weather but I made the effort myself.

"I started by taking each day as it came and, the next thing I knew, I had a very good record.

"By years 7 and 8, I knew I might as well keep the record up and put in the effort to get to school each day.

"It will look good on future job applications."

cent attendance rate.

Rikesh, from Hall Green, went to Lakey Lane Primary School before Ninestiles. He dodged traditional childhood illness like chickenpox and measles, which could have ruined his proud record.

Now he is set to study for A Levels in biology, chemistry, maths and economics at The Sixth Form College in Solihull. He hopes to take up medicine or dentistry.

Rikesh's dinner lady mum, Gita said: "I’m very proud of him.

"I remember once he had a high temperature at night, I gave him Calpol and in the morning said: 'You don’t have to go to school'.

"But he said: 'No, I want to go to school. Give me another Calpol.'

"They gave him a certificate for his attendance he had at primary school. When he went to secondary school I didn't think he'd be like that but he was."

Ninestiles principal Gaetano Ferrante said: "It’s an outstanding achievement.

"Excellent attendance at school provides a strong foundation to any success and Rikesh will have acknowledgement of this on GCSE results day on August 22. The school will also recognise this achievement at the annual awards evening at the Town Hall in November."
