This is the Handsworth murder victim who was found stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Lukasz Furmanek was found by a member of the public who called in police just after 3am after discovering two men lying unconscious in Grove Lane.

Local officers arrived a few minutes later and performed CPR in a bid to save 24-year-old Mr Furmanek, but he died despite their efforts.

A post-mortem examination carried out this afternoon confirmed that he died as a result of stab injuries.

A second 31-year-old man, who also suffered stab wounds, is still critically ill in hospital.

Detectives, who have been scouring CCTV in the area, have repeated their appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

Grove Lane also remains closed while forensic officers continue to search for clues.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Ridding, from Force CID, is leading the investigation. She said: “We are working around the clock to find the people responsible for this attack and bring them to justice.

“We continue to appeal to members of the public to come forward with any information that could help us.

“We appreciate that this attack will have caused concern to the local community but at this stage it appears to have been an isolated offence.

“Although it happened in the early hours of the morning someone may have been passing by and seen something that could help us.

“We also want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything out of the ordinary.”

Anyone with information which may help DCI Ridding on 101. Information can also be given anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
