An innocent 63 year-old man was stabbed as he walked past a bus stop in an apparently motiveless attack in broad daylight.

The victim suffered a stab wound to his shoulder as he made his way along a footpath near Asda on Bordesley Green.

The man was taken to hospital following the attack at 5.30pm yesterday and was allowed home where, police said, he is recovering well.

Officers said they are looking for an Asian man, aged 25 to 30, of medium build with short black hair.

They said he was wearing black trousers and a black top and had a silver stud in one ear.

He was also seen smoking.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, from Force CID, said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked assault on an innocent member of the public with no clear motive.

“If anyone was in that area of Bordesley Green around the time of the incident and saw the attack itself or anyone fitting this description, I would urge them to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
