Pedestrians watched in horror on Wednesday as a man fell to his death from the Library of Birmingham.

The tragedy happened just before 7pm while the area was still busy with late-evening commuters and shoppers.

West Midlands Police confirmed it was called to the incident in Cambridge Street, just behind the main library building.

It was not treating the death as suspicious.

It was not clear from which floor the man fell from.

His next of kin had been told.

The £189 million library has been open for just over a year.

At its highest point it is 200ft tall.
