A man and a woman have been arrested in Birmingham after a hit and run in which a man was severely injured.

A 49-year-old man was hit by a silver car believed to be a Nissan Micra, at 14:20 GMT on Wednesday, near Adderley Park train station, Bordesley Green.

A 38-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested at an address in the Sparkbrook area of the city.

Sgt Gavin Green, of West Midlands Police, said they were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He said: "The victim, a pedestrian, is in a very serious condition in hospital having suffered a head injury from the collision.

"We are still very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or a silver Nissan Micra driving near the scene at the time."

An abandoned car was later found abandoned.
