A man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was shot and stabbed in Birmingham 10 years ago.

A man in his 30s suffered gun wounds to his thigh and lower back and stab injuries to his arms in the incident in Gowan Road, Alum Rock, in August 2002.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday and taken to the West Midlands for questioning over the incident, police said.

The man, who used to live in Alum Rock, is due before Birmingham magistrates.

The victim of the 2002 attack went on to make a full recovery, a police spokesman added.
