Man arrested following shooting

2013-02-14 16:07:34

A Birmingham man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the leg outside his home in Bordesley Green last night (13 February).

Within hours a 31-year-old man was arrested from a nearby hotel and is currently in police custody, helping officers with their enquiries.

The 45-year-old victim was getting into his car in Fordrough Lane at around 6pm, when a masked man shot at him, hitting him twice. The offender left at speed in another vehicle.

Detective Inspector Nigel Harrison, from the force's Criminal Investigation Department, said: "The victim is recovering well in hospital, but this could have had far more serious consequences. We would like to hear anyone that witnessed the shooting or saw a car driving away from the area at speed."

Police are urging anyone with information to contact detectives on 101, or alternatively anyone not wishing to speak to police can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

News of the incident comes as gun crime across the whole of Birmingham continues to fall. In 2010 there were 469 firearms offences compared to 298 in 2012.
