Kyle Sheehan death in Birmingham: Family appeal

2012-10-01 22:50:01

The grandmother of a teenage boy stabbed in Birmingham has described his death as "just horrendous".

Sixteen-year-old Kyle Sheehan was stabbed in the leg in Jiggins Lane, Bartley Green, on 21 September.

A 23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and three people, aged 16, 18 and 29, arrested on suspicion of wounding have been released on bail.

Kyle had been in intensive care but died on Friday night, West Midlands Police said.

His grandmother Gail Lambe, 55, and mother Hayley Sheehan, 34, appeared at a police news conference earlier.

Ms Lambe said: "It's just been horrendous. His leg was amputated, his kidneys failed, his liver failed.

"We are in limbo at the moment. Somebody needs to speak to the police."

Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones said officers were still unsure of the exact circumstances which led to Kyle being stabbed.

"It appears to be a minor dispute which escalated between two or three groups in the park area.

"We need witnesses to come forward with information to lead to charges," he added.

Det Ch Insp Jones said no weapon had been recovered and officers were carrying out fingertip searches of the area.
