Mechanical Digger

A police car has been rammed by thieves driving a mechanical digger stolen from a college in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said a gang broke into the National Construction College in Kings Norton at 21:45 GMT on Sunday.

A West Mercia police car that tried to stop the JCB in Harbinger Road was rammed. The officers inside were not hurt, police said.

A spokesman said the gang then abandoned the digger and escaped in a Land Rover Defender.
