CCTV appeal over attack at Selly Oak takeaway

2013-01-08 19:06:51

CCTV pictures have been released of a man wanted for a serious assault outside a takeaway in Birmingham, which left a man with a broken jaw.

Alex Kosuth-Phillips, 23, from Chester, had to eat liquidised food for three months after being punched outside a pizza shop in Selly Oak last February.

He had three metal plates inserted after his jaw was broken in two places.

West Midlands Police said it wants anyone who recognises the man in the footage to come forward.

Mr Kosuth-Phillips was out clubbing with his girlfriend in Birmingham to celebrate his birthday on 24 February 2012.

He said he was getting food in the Pizza Land takeaway when a man started "swearing and having a go at my ginger hair".

'Violent mentality'

"The last thing I remember is I put my hand on the door and opened it and I don't remember anything else after that," he said.

"The way he punched me, even the police have said, he looks like a trained fighter so he obviously has got a violent mentality."

Mr Kosuth-Phillips said he lost two stone in 12 weeks after the attack because he had to eat liquidised mashed potato, coleslaw and cheese.

"I had to go to the hospital every two weeks and I had to visit a dietician because they thought I was malnourished," he said.

"It's been really traumatic, and I hope someone who knows him sees the footage and calls the police."

Det Con Louise Corcoran said: "This was a serious unprovoked assault and it's had a lasting effect on the victim, who has been left physically and emotionally scarred.

"We need to catch the person responsible and ensure justice is done."
