Scene of the bus accident in Stratford Road, Sparkhill
A busy Birmingham road was closed after a bus crashed into three cars before careering onto the pavement.
Police, firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance were called to the scene of the smash at around 1pm in Stratford Road, Sparkhill on Sunday.
Part of the road was sealed off with police tape to allow the helicopter to land at the scene.
Witnesses said they believed the driver must have suffered a heart attack or a fit at the wheel of the vehicle before the crash.
"One minute the bus was driving normally and then the next thing it swerved and hit three cars before careering off the road and crashing into a safety barrier on the pavement," said one man, who did not wish to be named.
"It looked like the driver must have had some kind of heart attack or a fit of some kind.
"It was a good job that the barriers were there other wise the bus could have crashed into the shops."
