A 27-year-old primary school teacher has been charged with 12 sex offences involving young boys.

Joseph O'Malley, who works at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in Billesley, Birmingham, has been charged with 12 counts of sexual touching on boys under the age of 13.

Birmingham City Council said Mr O'Malley had been suspended from his job while the police inquiry continued.

He is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on 22 July.

Mr O'Malley, who lives in Hall Green, has been bailed until then.

The city council said a letter was being sent to parents at the school explaining its "safeguarding procedures".
