2013-04-02 09:12:28

A woman in her fifties has died in a fire at a house in Birmingham.

The woman died at the scene of the fire on Regent Road, in Handsworth, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at 15:00 BST on Monday. A fire service spokesman said the fire was contained to the front, upstairs bedroom of the two storey house.

Both the fire service and the police are investigating the cause of the fire which police say is unexplained.

Mal Fellows, station commander at Northfield Fire Station, said police would be at the house on Tuesday morning while investigations continue.

He said 10 firefighters were called to the "intense blaze" and the fire was put out within 30 minutes.
