The police say the Bullring is still open

Armed police have been sent to the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham

Officers are still stationed at all the entrances to the shopping centre, according to a BBC reporter.

The force helicopter was also circling the area and a number of police vehicles, marked and unmarked, remain around New Street and High Street.

West Midlands Police have refused to say what prompted the deployment but in a tweet they confirmed the shopping centre remains open.
