Amarjit Singh Rai murder: Birmingham man charged

A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a man in a street in Birmingham.

Amarjit Singh Rai, 41, died from multiple injuries after being attacked in Gillott Road, Edgbaston, shortly after 12:00 BST on Thursday.

Fausto Graciano, of Gillott Road, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, accused of his murder.

Mr Graciano was remanded in custody to reappear at Birmingham Crown Court on 23 July.

In a statement, Mr Rai's family said he was a "loving son, brother, husband and a devout father who was a pillar of strength within the community".

They said his loss was "greater than words can express and the tragic way he has been taken away will leave a lifetime of wounds.

"He was a much respected businessman, who was also very giving to all he met."
