2013-04-02 23:40:20

A five-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Birmingham.

The child was struck by a blue Vauxhall Vectra on Court Lane in Erdington shortly after 21:10 BST on Monday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the boy had been taken to a nearby house and was "unconscious".

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child, who was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital, but he died later in the evening. The car driver has been interviewed voluntarily.

Pc Karl Davies said the boy's family had been left "shocked and grief-stricken".

He appealed for witnesses as the road was "fairly busy" at the time.
