2013-01-26 00:25:21

A teenage girl was in hospital today after allegedly being stabbed in the arm during a lesson at a Birmingham school.

The 13-year-old was allegedly stabbed with a metal rasp file during a class at Castle Vale Performing Arts College this afternoon.

Police have not said what class the assault occurred in, but metal rasp files are generally used in woodwork and metalwork lessons.

The girl was taken to hospital with the file still embedded in her arm and underwent surgery to have the object removed from her arm.

Police were called to the incident where they arrested a 13-year-boy and he was being questioned on suspicion of assault.

The girl's condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
