Nelson Mandela discharged from hospital in South Africa

Nelson Mandela

Former South African president, Nelson Mandela, has been discharged from hospital, where he has been receiving treatment for a lung infection and gallstones.

Mr Mandela was admitted to hospital 18 days ago.

His wife, Graca Machel, and the current South African President, Jacob Zuma, visited him on Christmas Day, when they said he was in good spirits.

Mr Zuma said doctors were happy with the progress Mr Mandela had made.
