A body has been found by detectives investigating the disappearance of a mother from south London.

Janelle Duncan-Bailey, 25, from Pawsons Road, Thornton Heath, went missing in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police said a body found in a parked car in Mayfield Crescent earlier was believed to be that of Ms Duncan-Bailey.

On Friday a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder. He remains in custody, police said.

Leopardskin dress

Det Chief Insp Charles King, of the Metropolitan Police, said Ms Duncan-Bailey was wearing a distinctive short-sleeved leopardskin print dress and was not wearing shoes when she was last seen in Limpsfield Avenue between 05:00 and 05:30 GMT on Wednesday.

A friend who was looking after her two sons, aged two and seven, reported her missing on Wednesday afternoon when she failed to collect them.

Det Ch Insp King said he was appealing for anyone who may have seen the victim to contact police.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination are due to take place.
