British man murdered on the Caribbean island of St Lucia

A British man has reportedly been murdered on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

According to local media, the man and his wife arrived on the island from the UK on their yacht, and were attacked in the town of Vieux Fort on Friday night.

It is understand his wife was injured.

The UK Foreign Office said it was "aware of the death of a British national on 18 January on St Lucia" and was "providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time".

The cause of the man's death is not yet known; according to local news reports, police say a post-mortem examination is still to be carried out.

Tourism is the main source of income for St Lucia and its biggest employer.
